Vanilla and Lace - Spring Fling Household Cleaners

Hello! I'm Abi and I run a blog called vanilla and lace.  Admitting this may make me a weirdo but one of my favorite parts about spring is spring cleaning! So I'm super excited to be here talking about all-natural cleaners you can make at home. I'm a big fan of seventh generation, method and various other natural cleaners but those brands usually come with a hefty price tag. However, it is very easy to make your own at home with only a few products, some of which you may already have. Whether you love green cleaning as much as me or are just looking to save some money, I hope you'll try this out!

(Keep in mind, your initial cost to buy the ingredients will probably be more than you are used to spending on cleaners, but it will make MANY batches)

All-purpose castile cleaner
Use on kitchen and bathroom surfaces.2 teaspoons washing soda
4 teaspoons borax
1 teaspoon castile soap*
4 cups hot water
10 drops of essential oil (I used tea tree, for its anti-bacterial properties)

and you'll need a 32oz spray bottle.

Pour all ingredients into bottle and gently shake back and forth until the washing soda and borax has dissolved. Thats it!

*I bought the peppermint castile soap. It works really well with cleaning products and keeps your home smelling fresh.

Thanks to Erin and Sherry for inviting me to be a part of spring fling.

  2. OH MY GOD, DR. BRONNER'S MAGIC SOAP, I've been using that stuff my entire life! Even if you don't like peppermint, the crazy garbage he has written all over his label is well worth the money.

  3. Jamie,

You can buy castile soap at target.. it's in the cosmetic section near burts bees products usually. and you should be able to find borax at regular grocery stores.. (kroger, wal-mart, ect)
