Jack Skellington Cupcakes - Tim Burton Cupcake Series Part 1

"I sense there's something in the wind  That feels like tragedy's at hand. And though I'd like to stand by him, Can't shake this feeling that we have.  The worst is just around the bend.  And does he notice My feelings for him?  And will he see How much he means to me? I think it's not to be."   - Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas)

Part 1 of the Tim Burton Cupcake series begins today.  The most distinct Tim Burton movie from my childhood was Nightmare Before Christmas.  I very vividly remember going to the theater with my family to see this very beautiful movie.  It will forever have a place in my heart. My first Tim Burton Cupcake Recipe goes out to the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' star...Jack Skellington.

Berry Filled Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting

Chocolate Fudge Cake:

1/3 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 packae of chocolate cake mix
4 eggs
1/4 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of sour cream
1/2 cup of oil
1/2 cup of water

Combine all ingredients (except chocolate chips) in a mixing bowl and mix until smooth. Chop your chocolate chip (finely...I used a food processor) and stir into your cake batter mixture. Divide into cupcake liners and bake at 350 degrees for 19-21 minutes.

Berry Filling:

1/2 a can of cherry pie filling
1/2 cup of strawberry jam
1/2 cup of raspberry jam or preserves

Combine all ingredients in a food processor (a blender will work too) and blend until cherry pieces are small and mixture is smooth.  This won't take but a few seconds.

When your cupcakes are cool, use a fork or a cupcake plunger to remove the cupcake centers. Fill each cupcake with a small spoonful of berry mixture.  Tear the tiny inside piece of cake from your cupcake top and replace the cupcake top (like a 'lid' ...see photo for example).

Frost your cupcakes with buttercream, I used this recipe from last week but I eliminated the salted caramel.  I used a portion of my buttercream, tinted black to decorate his eyes and mouth.

I will be sharing two more recipes on Tuesday and Wednesday and then reveal some photos from our Tim Burton inspired Halloween Party from this past weekend on Thursday's blog post.  Cannot wait to share the rest with you.

This is Halloween Town.

Love,
  Erin

  12. So I just found your blog today thanks to Gussy and a post she did about your studio tour. I decided to pop over and check out your blog, and I cannot wait to see what I find.

I love Tim Burton, and Nightmare Before Christmas especially. I absolutely adore these cupcakes, and wish I could try something like this. I cannot wait to see what other characters you make next!
