For many major holidays when we get to spend the holiday at home we like to have a brunch. It's become a 'thing' and I look forward to putting it all together for Josh and Penelope. We put some records on and sit and chat over brunch for a long time. I don't know why but these little moments end up meaning a lot to me. Just a calm time where the three of us just enjoy each other. Usually Penelope says something really hilarious and unexpected and Josh and I just look at each other and burst out laughing. She's all like 'what, what did I say?' Little inside jokes and mostly we just think she's the most adorable thing ever. I look forward to when Penelope is all grown and she has her family over for brunch with us. It's our tradition and we started out this new year fresh with fresh food and a lovely New Year's day. I hope to do more special things with just the three of us all year long. Maybe even start a new tradition or a few new ones. I loved the little things that my parents did throughout the year that I could look forward to as a child. I miss those things now that I'm an adult but I'm more than happy to make Penelope's childhood full of anticipation and happy things.
What kind of yearly traditions do you do with your family? I'd love some ideas.
Love,
Erin
p.s. I'll share recipes for my frittata and fruit galette in the next couple of weeks.

This is so sweet! I've not really grown up in a culture of "brunch", but I would love to start a Sunday brunch tradition, it seems like the perfect meal. My family don't have many traditions but every time I go to see my mum we drive out to this little village in the middle of nowhere for sandwiches and scones. It's lovely :)

I never really had 'brunch' growing up either but I love it. I've thrown a brunch for our youth kids (10-15 teenaged girls) in the past and I loved it. I just started making a small brunch for us once and awhile. It's relaxing and I love trying new recipes. :)
DeleteI WANT THIS¡¡
ReplyDeleteI really admire how your raising your daughter to eat not only healthy food but a variety of foods. I see so many children only wanting fast-food and junk food. When my girls were in school they were in a class of 35 and they were the only ones to have veggies at lunch. I won't even tell you how the other children reacted when my girls brought Sushi for lunch. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo.
Thank you! We really wanted to have a balanced diet right from the get go. We always let her try a little of everything and encourage her to try things she's not sure of. She loves sushi and avocados. It's very important to us to have her eat healthy. We've seen a lot of kids that only eat mac and cheese and french fries and we don't want that.

The asparagus fritatta looks YUM! I am pretty sure I can confidently say I could eat that in one sitting if I was forced to! YUM!
ReplyDeleteTraditions... I have 2 I have fun with.
The first is the Birthday Fairy. She comes to our house on the eve of a kiddo's birthday and leaves a little gift for the birthday babe at the foot of the bed. It's cute the girls are now leaving her notes and now the sibling gets a little something for them too.
The 2nd is - well darn I guess I have 3 now that I think of it ad it's tying with the 2nd. Anywho... I blow out real eggs the week before Easter, enough for 2 for every person coming to my house for Easter brunch, and we paint them and I hang them on a manznida tree I have had for ages. They are AMAZING! People now plan out for the year what they are going to paint. We have eggs as fruit, egss as Star Wars characters, Angry birds, Russian looking eggs, monograms, beach scenes, Twilight eggs... Anyway it's a hit and I can't eer imagine not blowing my cheeks out every year for the frivolity of it.
Last is - on Christmas Eve Santa's elves come at some point during the day and take the kids stockings only to magically reappear the next morning with their loot. The girls just LOVE to be the 1st to notice when they are gone.
HUGS! And I can't wait for the recipes!!!

Oh my, this New Years brunch looks so fantastic and lovely! My boyfriend and I had my cousin and her fiancee over for a New Years brunch, too. It's such a rewarding way to start the new year.
